Sharing a passion to advocate for and empower common sense action to enable Tiny Homes to become part of the housign solution. New Zeland is in a housing emergency while facing a global pandemic. Our first and best response to COVID has been to "Go Home Stay Home". Housing affordability cannot be achieved without building a new affordable Tiny transportable first step on the housing ladder. We have been working since 2016 with Government, industry and landowners, to address land use issues preventing Tiny transportable homes from being included in the housing market. A Temporary Land Use proposal "Tiny Homes coming ready or not" was submitted by one of the organizers - Julie Jacobson- first to Central Government in March 2020 and then - having been told Central Government was expecting Councils to come up with solutions, she submitted the proposal to Tasman DIstrct Council's LTP plan - including Mayor Tim King - in June 2020. As the COVID Pandemic revealed the true extent of housing insecurity in NZ, Julie made a further submission to TDC in November 2020 entitled "Urgent Action Housing Initiative" Our Goal is to stem our homegrown humanitarian crisis, by empowering the human enterprise that has created the Tiny Home concept and can create homes affordable to all Kiwis, anywhere they are needed. We are in a housing emergency in NZ, that threatens to undermine our collective economy, well being, public health and human spirit are at stake. BIG TINY HOUSE EXPO & HUI we hope, will serve to educate the Public to the personal and environmental benefits of living Tiny. Showcasing eco friendly, sustainable and affordable alternatives, to public reticulated infrastructure and providing a point of focus, a platform (Hui Centre) for meaningful discussion, collaboration, and ultimately action to amend land use issues under TRMP - allowing for legal land use for transportable dwellings and security of tenure for both land owner and Tiny Home owner. Building a new "First Step" on the housing ladder Aiming to establish an affordable land use compliance path, for private landowners to offer, legal 'Home-sites to Rent’ to Tiny Home owners - providing financers, insurers, rental investors, tenants and land owners Security of Tenue - crucial proof of residence - a home address.
